Scottish blues rockers on the riseby Johnny Firecloud
Jan 25, 2010
If you're half as entrenched in the music scene as we are, you're undoubtedly tired of seeing the same bands in girl pants and suspenders hailed as the "next big thing," only to find that their music is an ear-stabbing sonic abomination.

Biography
Edinburgh based foursome Alfonzo have successfully captured a sound that could potentially see them skyrocket to stardom.
The dirty, blues laced bass line that brings this vibrant piece of 70s nostalgia rock n roll into play sets the scene for what becomes a blast from the past tune with a little bit of a modern shine.
A screaming guitar riff fits hand in hand with the jangly keyboards and bouncing drum beat that keep this song fast paced and thrilling, making your bones shake with every second of this wholesome rock track.
The rough vocals provided by Daniel McGeever couldnt have fitted more perfectly, and the tight lyrics ensure that this song doesnt fall short on any level.
With a sound that can only be described as the screaming love child of The Answer and Led Zeppelin (and that just only brushes the surface) Blind as Faith offers a decent slice of rock and roll, a heavy dose of the blues and not an ounce of uncomplimentary nonsense.

Alfonzo -Blind As Faith
Old time rock and roll; a style and sound that you don't hear very often anymore without religiously tuning into Radio 2.
But here, Alfonzo are the 21st Century bluesy-rock-n-roll answer to all your nostalgic needs. And they've got it down to a tee, even with the old-time piano plonking along in the background.
It's safe to say it was an unexpected blast from the past, and it's been done very well.
"Blind As Faith" is a fun-filled track, guarenteed to have you boogying around the room.

Alfonzo 'blind as faith' (d set)
Buggering hell this is well smart - debut release from Edinburgh based blues types Alfonzo comes just ahead of their debut full length which as I write they are busy putting the finishing gloss on with the help and assistance of Jim Sutherland's productive paint brush. 'blind as faith' is well - the hint is in the title I guess - a stoking slab of Blind Faith groove.
Blessed with a deceptive lip curling scowl, it seems that Alfonzo have not only found a way of fusing the trademark retro glazing of the much admired Stairs and the Coral but have had the foresight to blend to the mix elements of the Faces, Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe and Dr Feelgood and despatched them into a grizzled and grinding shot of raw fermented blues that's been devilishly dinked by a road hugging dynamic and spiked by a subtle but all the same killer snaking riff purr prowl.
Flip over for 'what's happening' - a grizzled and primal drive time zapped fuzz buzzed wah wah beatnik head nodder that sounds to these ears like its recently risen from some long late 60's lie in - does it for us.

Alfonzo are more from the blues rock of Hendrix, Cream and The Black Crowes than some of the more modern "rock" bands. And thank the gods for that.
The title track is blues rock of the classic 70's variety (think Black Crowes or The Answer) and is a storming tune.
From its bass intro through the steady driving drumming and on to the excellent guitar-work and outstanding vocals, this is a marvellous 4 minutes.
They prove themselves to be fine musicians, with a singer who has a great voice.
The second track is the 2 minute instrumental What's Happening. This has a RATM tinge to it, with just the odd bit of Sabbath thrown in for good measure. It's a great track as well.
This is a single well worth getting. I've been listening to these 2 tracks for the last 4 and a half hours on repeat, and I love them. Can't wait for the album.
